Congratulations to Grant Resident Brandon Wood whose deep commitment to the community is taking him all the way to Kansas City this year.
Wood was awarded with the 2010 Great Plains Communications’ Community Service Award in February. His win will be celebrated with a dinner in his honor during the Mid-America Telecomm Showcase and Seminar in Kansas City.
The criteria for the award include a strong commitment to the community through volunteer work and other activities. Wood currently serves as a Boy Scout of America Leader and is a member of the local rotary club. He has also supported the Chamber of Commerce where he has managed and worked the annual 4th of July events and pancake feeds.
As a resident of Hayes Center, Wood was a member of the Hayes Center Fire and Rescue Department and the Hayes Center Squad where he served as a National Registered Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). He served two terms as the city’s mayor and two terms as chairman for the Hayes Center Board of Health. He also served the West Central Nebraska Development District exploring economic enhancements for the area.
“Brandon consistently displays an attitude and demeanor of serving Great Plains Communications customers and his community. Whether he is asked or recognizes a need, Brandon is always willing to volunteer his time and effort,” stated Jason Grigg, District Manager, in his nomination of Wood for the award.
