Congratulations to Alberta Olson of Hay Springs Public School, who has been named our Outstanding Teacher of the Year!
The award, which is presented annually to a Nebraska teacher, was presented on May 15th at the school’s academic fair.
Olson started teaching 1965, she has had the chance to work with students from Kindergarten through the 8th grade. Recently, Hay Springs’ seniors selected her as the teacher who influenced them the most.
Olson graduated with her teaching degree from Chadron State College and has stayed in rural education throughout her career. She currently teaches Kindergarten, which is an age group she loves. Olson is a member of the Nebraska State Education Association, the National Education Association and the Nekota Reading Council.
“I love to be around young children and to see their educational growth. Kids love to learn at this age and think that their teacher is very special,” said Olson in her nomination form.
If you have a great teacher at your school, make sure to nominate them for next year’s Outstanding Teacher Award!
