This Holiday Season, shipping and supply chain issues mean shoppers accustomed to finding plenty of sales and bargains on hot items – both online and in brick-and-mortar stores — could find that expectations have to be adjusted. Store shelves might be thin and online items out-of-stock. Last minute online orders may also be risky due to widespread shortages of delivery drivers, postal workers and others that deliver our gifts.

While it’s not to say there won’t be anything available, here are a few other gift-giving options to keep in mind.

Shop local. Shopping at your local boutique businesses offers a variety of wonderful options, while supporting the local economy. Thrift stores can also be a treasure trove of presents. Facebook and other social media sites have “Buy Nothing” groups where people give away items for free or ask others for something specific they’re looking for.

Give the gift of knowledge. Does your friend or relative have a hobby or interest they’re passionate about, like space exploration or learning to play the guitar? Online ebooks, audiobooks, video streaming services, and online courses are great gifts for every interest. A subscription to a meal delivery kit such as Blue Apron or HelloFresh comes with easy-to-follow recipes, good quality ingredients and can be a future time-saver.

Gift an experience. Create memories with an IOU for a future weekend getaway or a vacation. What about tickets to an upcoming show or concert or tickets to the recipient’s favorite team, such as the Omaha Storm Chasers?

This past fall, the iconic Rolling Stones were back on the road with their No Filter tour which was postponed due to the pandemic. Some say this had to be their final tour. Some say, well, it’s the Stones so maybe not. Nonetheless, here are the Rolling Stones performing a particularly timely old favorite:

You can’t always get what you want. . .
But if you try sometimes, well, you might find
You get what you need. . .
