As of April 1st, Great Plains Communications will be dropping the TV Guide Channel from its channel lineup in many communities.
The move was made in response to several factors. The first is that the TV Guide Channel has moved its programming away from providing channel information and towards entertainment. This shift has significantly diminished the demand for the channel among our customer base. The second factor is the high cost of the channel, which given its reduced value to customers, is no longer a smart expense. Finally, the network will not be upgrading its technology to stay at pace with our upgrades. The TV Guide Channel does not provide an IP based solution that allows for individual channel lineup information. As we continue to consolidate our communities onto fewer head ends, which provides greater quality consistency, we will need these types of solutions from our channel partners.
