We are well into the 2021 Omaha Storm Chasers season and fans have been enjoying a superior in-stadium experience when they return to their seats in Werner Park, thanks to the fiber-driven technology services provided by Great Plains Communications (GPC).

It was last year when GPC first installed its services at the Werner ballpark, including high-speed fiber Internet to Werner Stadium, the press boxes, baseball and soccer offices, point-of-sale (POS) systems, and voice services. An upgraded public Wi-Fi network powered by GPC fiber supports connectivity for fans while enabling massive amounts of data to be transmitted during a game or event.

Martie Cordaro, president of the Omaha Storm Chasers, explains that Internet technology has always been important to the organization, but became especially vital during the restrictions of the pandemic. As for this year, the need for fast fiber Internet will continue, and increase.

“Storm Chasers has a host of cool technologies that we think will delight our fans and let them enjoy the ultimate in-game experience,” he said. Here are a few:

  • Omaha Storm Chasers high-definition video board. Visible to every seat in the stadium, with excellent image clarity and contrast, it re-defines the in-stadium experience.
  • Digital ticketing software and parking passes. All tickets and passes are delivered to the fan’s email, where they can add them to their Apple or Google wallet on their phone. Or, they can simply open and scan at the gate.
  • Cashless system. All concessions and the Storm Front team store accept electronic contactless payments for greater security and ease of use.

Today, many fans want to do more when they come to the ballpark than and watch nine innings, rooting for the home team, while munching on bags of peanuts and Cracker Jacks. They want to track batting averages, RBIs, home runs and other statistics and scores.

“With fast and reliable Internet service from Great Plains Communications that enables lower latency for both uplink and downlink traffic, our fans can take out their phones and discover their stat-tracking grows exponentially online.  Fans enjoy posting photos and videos to social media as well, and keeping everyone engaged takes the fan experience to another level,” said Martie.
