The Process of Becoming a Fiberhood

If you’re wondering how to get fiber internet installed in your area, the process is relatively simple. Our team works closely with your local officials and utilities to determine the best way to bring fiber internet to your community. As soon as the plans are finalized and approved, we get to work.

The next stage is construction, where we work to install underground cabling whenever possible. However, there may be some instances when it makes more sense to use a combination of buried and above-ground aerial fiber optics. From there, the next phase involves splicing and testing the individual fibers to ensure they will provide the optimal performance and reliability.

How Long Does It Take to Get Fiber Internet?

At this point, your neighborhood’s fiber optic network is complete, and you’ll be able to request a connection for your home or business. You’ll receive a notification from us that fiber is now available in your area, and you can set up an appointment. From there, you’ll only have a short wait before you can start enjoying your new fiber internet services.

At your scheduled appointment time, one of our badged technicians will arrive in a GPC-branded vehicle. They will run a cable to your property either underground or as a temporary above-ground connection. If we’re installing at your home and need to run a cable across your lawn, we’ll mark it with flags so it’s visible. We’ll be back within 14 days to bury the cable so it will be protected from the elements, wildlife and other potential hazards. If we need to dig in your yard to bury the cable, you can rest assured we will do everything needed to restore your lawn, so it was like we were never there.
