It’s back-to-school time of the year again. No matter what the 2021-2022 school year brings, we’ve learned to adapt and reimagine learning, thanks to education technology.

Here’s our roundup of tips, resources and some back-to-school STEAM fun.

Internet safety. There’s no doubt that a growing number of mobile devices are returning to school, which means that safe social media use and internet security are important lessons for students. The FTC’s Protecting Kids Online is one of many resources with tips on important topics such as kids and texting, computer security, online socializing and much more.

Online homework and bandwidth. Bandwidth requirements will vary. Contributing factors can be: the number of active devices, how many students and adults are working online at the same time, and the type of activity.  For example, video streaming requires higher levels of bandwidth to avoid lag or buffering. If you’re not sure how much speed you need, click here or contact our Customer Response Center at 888.343.8014 and one of our technology experts will be happy to assist.

Everyday Astronaut.  “The point is, rocket science is awesome, and you don’t need to be a rocket scientist to be excited.” Iowa’s Everyday Astronaut Tim Dodd (a space fanatic, not an astronaut) brings space down to Earth for everyday people.  The media site and YouTube channel features easy to understand videos about spaceflight and interviews with space stars such as SpaceX’s Elon Musk, former NASA administrator Jim Bridenstine, and Rocket Lab’s Peter Beck. Check out the tour of SpaceX’s Starbase facility with the ultimate tour guide, Elon Musk!

S.T.E.M. + ART = S.T.E.A.M. The Google Arts & Culture website and apps is a wonderful online window into the art world.  The site hosts more than 6,000 art and artifact exhibitions from more than 2,000 museums and art galleries located around the world and is showcasing different ways for people to discover and interact with art.

For aspiring musicians and composers, the Chrome Music Lab Song Maker from Google makes learning about music accessible, interactive and fun across devices – phones, tablets, laptops. Experiment with arpeggios, major and minor chords, different string tones in different octaves and much more.
