Recently an article appeared in the Omaha World Herald that discussed a potential Big Ten Network blackout that would affect the first two homes games and an undetermined conference home game. While Great Plains Communications was mentioned as one of the Cable providers that will NOT be subject to the blackout, it did not accurately report the Great Plains Communications’ communities that will be able to watch these games.

To be clear; All Great Plains Communications’ Cable customers with the Big Ten Network will have access to these games.   We have received personal assurances from the Big Ten Network that we will not be affected by the blackout.

The issue stems from the fact that some cable providers have put the Big Ten Network on a very high and expensive “level” of cable.  The Big Ten Network wants providers to place the channel on a reasonable cable level.  For our part, the network is never placed higher than Expanded Basic Cable, meaning we are well within the network’s request.

As a Nebraska owned company, we take access to Cornhusker sports seriously and we are working hard to make sure that our customers have access to the Big Ten Network.  If you have any further questions, please feel free to drop us a comment or call 1-888-343-8014.
